MEET THE GRADUATES!

Enable Infrastructure (formerly known as BCM Construction) are proud to be able to offer 4 new graduate positions within the business.

As we come to the end of what has seemed like an eternity of lockdown restrictions, this quiet period of commuter travel has allowed us to fulfil a wide variety of work in a shorter space of time. This time has also allowed us to focus on how we, as a business, aim to expand into new markets and build on the ones we currently operate in. A key step in achieving this goal for us was to follow a previously successful strategy of employing fresh-minded graduates.

Enable Infrastructure recognises the importance of investing in younger people, integrating them within the business and providing key experience, mentorship and support to allow them to grow and progress in their careers. Enable Infrastructure recognises that graduates today are the future of the business tomorrow.”- Stuart Jackson, Commercial Director, Enable Infrastructure.

In the past 3 years we have been able to offer 7 full-time contracts to successful graduates, with four of those full-time positions being offered this year.  We are sure this next group will follow suit and develop within the business.

Here is a brief introduction of the graduates joining the team this year:

Jez Cross (back left): Jez has been appointed as a Graduate Planner after recently finishing a master’s degree in Civil Engineering at Loughborough University. His key responsibilities are to develop a plan to complete projects based on budget, work schedule, and available resources.

Dane Marshall (back right): Dane has been appointed as our Marketing Graduate after finishing a 4-year Marketing Communications degree at Bournemouth University. He will oversee internal and external communications for Enable Infrastructure and manage much of the Enable brand’s online presence.

Harrison Bryant (front left): Harrison is a Business Management Graduate from the University of Portsmouth and he has recently gained the position of Graduate Buyer here at Enable Infrastructure. His primary responsibility will be to procure all the materials required for building projects.

Owen James (front right): Owen is a 27-year-old Environmental Monitoring Modelling and Management Masters graduate from King’s College London. He has joined Enable Infrastructure in a graduate position within the Health Safety, Environment and Quality team. When asked about what he is looking forward to most, this is what he had to say: “I am excited to join a company that is always seeking to grow and develop, that is willing to innovate, and that has a conscience for environmental welfare”.

Further from this, here are some testimonials from some of the successful graduates that have been offered full-time positions with Enable Infrastructure:

Yalini Sithambaranathan is now a site engineer who said this when speaking about his past year:

“I been introduced to so many areas of rail and engineering that I was not aware of in my Graduate year at Enable Infrastructure. I have picked up skills that in turn allowed me to progress in my job role. The overall learning at Enable Infrastructure has allowed me to progress into my chartership. I have been able to be exposed to ‘site life’ as well as life in an office. I am enjoying learning something new every day and find no 2 days on the job are the same. The people at Enable Infrastructure have welcomed the graduates and I with open arms and have continuously mentored us.”

Mary Amoako is now a fully-fledged account assistant and she has this to say about her experience:

I have been working with Enable Infrastructure since July 2019. I provide financial support to our commercial and project teams. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience working for BCM. During the past year or so I have had the pleasure of working closely with different departments as well as our sister companies.

The Finance department is smaller than some of the other departments, but we truly carry our weight. Working with this team been amazing we are closely knit and help each other out whenever we can.”

Abu-bakr Sheth in now an Assistant Commercial Manager after being a graduate for the past year. He has this to say about his past year:

“My first year at Enable Infrastructure was an interesting challenge. This was my first construction-related employment after university, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Enable Infrastructure. I have been exposed to a lot during my first 12 months at Enable Infrastructure. I have enjoyed working with the team I have, and I cannot say anything bad about people within the company.

Within the commercial department, I can happily say that every member within the team are helpful, friendly and will always put time aside whenever help is required. I have learnt a lot about how Enable Infrastructure operate as a company and a lot about the rail industry given the amount of exposure I had at my disposal.

Within my first year at Enable Infrastructure, I was given the exposure to many construction projects (Feltham, Barnehurst, Volkers, Hither Green, Liverpool Street). I was available to visit the construction sites and participate and shifts on behalf of Enable Infrastructure. From a commercial aspect, I inputted a large commercial input in Hither Green and Barnehurst Blockade project. This gave me a strong knowledge of the commercial input within a construction/rail projects from pre-construction to post-construction. Alongside this, I have been given the responsibility to run my very own construction project. This has given me huge confidence and responsibility, but it is something I have enjoyed doing and I also have a strong team to aid and assist me should I need help.”

Morgan Pierre-Mitchell has been successful in the past graduate year and is now a bid manager. He has this to say about his experience:

“This past year with Enable Infrastructure I have got to learn a lot about the railway and experienced different parts of Enable Infrastructure as a business. Despite originally coming to Enable Infrastructure to pursue becoming a design engineer I have:

  • planned and coordinated 2 projects (Brookland LC Surveys and Locking Moor Bridge)
  • undertaken site-based tasks (track monitoring and quality assurance)
  • learned and implemented carbon monitoring into the Feltham project and pitched to the board ways to improve sustainability
  • produced as-built drawings
  • engaged in and lead client meetings”

To conclude, Enable Infrastructure recognises the need to invest and provide opportunities to those just starting their careers in the industry and will continue to invest in our graduate programme going forward. Also, Enable Infrastructure has undertaken a number of university careers events as an opportunity to meet the students, examples of which can be found here: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6640951602620575744

We will continue to engage with universities as a key element of our graduate recruitment programme.
